Ancient Israelite Houses
People who have been in archeology class or advanced history classes may well ask: Why are the houses so big?
Ok, I took a few liberties here. First of all, I did do the study that there were houses with central courtyards at that time. The most common house was a four room house with no courtyard.
My thinking is like this: Plenty of money, plenty of labor, starting fresh and new, desiring a wall around the village, keeping animals separate from people due to the laws concerning uncleaness, and keeping access to the interior houses through gates or doors, thus no “public” stair to the roof. In short, God blessed them, but due to the compromise with idolatry, bad things happened. Read the story to find out.
